INSTRUCTOR: Lynette Barker, Artisan

PROJECT: Sculpting a Handled Vase - Advanced

LENGTH OF CLASS: 3 hours

DATE AND TIME:  March 1st, 12pm to 3pm EST

DESCRIPTION:

All pieces will be 1:12 scale. Lynette will to teach you the advanced skills needed to sculpt clay, using tools and a mini wheel, into an elegant vase with two tiny handles and a carved foot. For this class. For this class, she will use air-dry clay, so no kiln is needed. If you have attended one of her previous classes, you already have the mini wheel to use in class. Previous experience in Lynette’s class is highly recommended. This is an advanced class. Basic skills will be reviewed and demonstrated, but not a lot of time will be spent on the basics. The project for this class will be an elegant curved vase with two tiny decorative handles attached near the neck of the vase. Finished project will be about 1 inch tall. Variation of style is encouraged. Techniques use will be: centering, opening, shaping, bellying, finishing, and making and attaching the handles. The class will be sent a materials package with 5 ounces of clay, and new tools used to make the vase (students will use the tools from the previous materials kits as well) There will be plenty of clay included to complete several vases.

Lynette sculpts 1:12 scale teapots (that really pour tea!), pitchers with delicate spouts and curlicue handles, many elegant shapes of vases, platters, and bowls, and unique sculptures. Later classes will cover more complex subjects, finishes and styles.

A mini wheel can be ordered by the instructor for the student, and sent directly to them, at minimal cost.

Maximum Number of Students: 10

SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate – Good vision and steady hands are highly recommended. Some experience sculpting on a mini wheel is strongly recommended. This is an advanced class. Beginners may find it to be difficult. Delicate handles will be created and attached to the vase, a touchy move.
