French Antique Mirror: Brass, Patination, Cold Enamel Instructor: Anna Belogurova (A)

In this class, participants will create a miniature wall mirror inspired by an antique French mirror, featuring champlevé-style enamel inlaid into a brass frame. The finished piece is made in 1:12 scale, with an approximate size of 67 × 48 mm, and will be fully completed during the seminar for participants to take home. What You Will Create A refined miniature mirror with decorative enamel details set into brass, combining historical aesthetics with contemporary materials and techniques. Program ● An introduction to the historical antique French mirror that serves as the reference for this piece ● The history and origins of the champlevé enamel technique and its traditional applications ● Discussion of where and how champlevé-inspired enamel can be used in decorative elements ● Introduction to cold enamel as a modern material: properties, behavior, and creative possibilities ● Hands-on practice: applying cold enamel into prepared brass elements ● Final finishing of brass: choosing between high polishing or chemical patination techniques
● If we have some free time, you'll also have the opportunity to create a decorative plate using the freehand painting technique.
This class combines historical context, material knowledge, and practical craftsmanship, offering participants both technical skills and a deeper understanding of decorative metal and enamel work.
Student supplies and tools needed: Needle tools, cutting mat, and spatula. Magnification and extra lighting if needed.
