Silas Deane Online

The bus will leave the hotel at 8:30 am for a full fun day of touring. We will explore the Largest Historical district in Connecticut. In the morning there will be guided tours of the 3 historic homes of Joseph Webb, Silas Deane and Issac Stevens.

Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum
Located in the heart of Connecticut’s largest historic district, the Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum offers tours of three authentically restored 18th-century homes, a Colonial Revival garden, the new Holcombe Education Center. Come share the quintessential New England experience - from the American Revolution to the early 20th century. Tours include the 1752 Joseph Webb House, where General George Washington met with French General Rochambeau, and planned the military campaign leading to the end of the Revolutionary War; the 1770 Silas Deane House, built for America’s first diplomat to France; and the 1788 Isaac Stevens House - depicting life in the 18th and 19th centuries through original family objects and a fascinating children’s exhibit. The Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum is owned and operated by the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in Connecticut

Lunch break on your own.

We will remain in the historic district of Wethersfield with the bus parked across from the Museum. The Comstock Ferre which is a very old seed supplier has a delightful café. More lunch choices will be available as well.

In the afternoon you can check out the Textile talk at the Museum, the Ancient Burial Grounds, or antique stores. Everything is in walking distance within a two block radius of the Museum. The burial grounds will mean walking on some grassy areas with a small hill.

It will be a great day of touring with friends, learning some amazing American history and being inspired by real history to make miniatures!
