Everyone joins the International Guild of Miniature Artisans as a general member. Most members are quite content to be in that category, as they are collectors of miniatures, and in some cases, create their own miniatures by building furniture, room boxes, houses, or by painting and decorating pieces, or creating flower arrangements from tiny bits of silk and wire. Many members learn their techniques and refine their talents at the Guild's splendid classes and study programs.
For those who wish to go further, the Guild offers Artisan and Fellow memberships. The practice of awarding these titles goes back in time to Medieval days when there were strong unions of craftsmen who taught apprentices how to carry on each craft to the best of their ability, and to reach an even higher level of expertise as a journeyman and finally, as a master.
Early in our Guild's formation, it was decided to recognize the exceptional talents of those Guild members who made and created the finest miniatures. This was done to encourage the growth of members' talents to the highest degree possible, in keeping with the Guild's motto "In the Pursuit and Recognition of Excellence."
After one year of General membership, you may submit your work to the Artisan Selection Committee for consideration of Guild Artisan membership. Only those who produce work of superior quality receive this honor. For more information, please visit the Artisan page.
After two years of continuous membership as a Guild Artisan, you may submit your work to the Guild Council for Fellow Selection for consideration of the highest Guild ranking, that of Guild Fellow. This honor is given to those whose work is the epitome of excellence, indeed...works of art! For information on applying for Fellow, please visit the Fellow page.
Dedicated to the recognition of excellence in the field of miniatures, Guild members are a wonderful mix of miniaturists. General members, Guild Artisans and Guild Fellows--all with one thing in common...an appreciation of fine miniatures. The Guild unites us all by offering standards to the art of miniaturia, and by recognizing the talents and contributions of all its members to that art.
