1:144 Patio Scene with Flowers
Thursday 9:00am –5:00pm
This class is a great introduction to 1/144 for the beginner, but the experienced student should have fun and learn a tip or two as well. In this relaxed class, students will start with a pre-formed base and learn how to make a realistic-looking patio using watercolor paper and paints. Next we will create an aged brick wall using cardstock and high quality photo-realistic printed brick. Students will age and weather the supplied 3-D printed potting table and pots, and put finishing touches on the prepared tree and garden implements. (Note that the pots may differ from those in the prototype due to availability.) The remainder of the time will be spent making a variety of realistic and recognizable potted plants that can be arranged around the patio. Students will create plants from punched paper, etched brass, live plant material, and various landscaping foams and dirt. Ink and colored pencils will be used to add color to flowers, as needed. Students will go home with extra materials so they can use the techniques taught in class to make additional potted plants or 1/144 landscaping. Approximate finished size is 1" wide x 1" deep.
TOOLS: Good magnification and lighting appropriate to the scale are essential. Students should bring an extension cord if your lamp is not battery operated. The instructor will have supplies that you can borrow/share, but it would be helpful if you could bring a craft knife with five sharp #11 blades, a cutting mat, fine tweezers, a sharp pencil or mechanical pencil with an eraser, and several small brushes (at least one #0 and a fine detail brush, such as #10/0). All other materials and tools will be provided.
